Who should attend: This course is aimed at new graduates within government.

ASC Training & Development (formerly Anthony Stone Consultants) have facilitated the OPE Graduate Development Program to over 190 graduates over the past 3 years, and in 2006/2007 were the sole provider of the (former) OPE Program to the SA Government. Feedback from both participants and managers indicated that a Certificate IV level course was more appropriate to graduates than the previous Certificate III level course, leading to this new structure.

What you will learn: Participants will learn a wide range of skills necessary for all new employees to the government workforce, including:

  • Understanding the ethical requirements of all Public Sector employees
  • The essentials of customer servicein a public service environment
  • Recognising and valuing individual differences
  • Working effectively with diverse clients and colleagues
  • Advanced communication skills for the workplace
  • Understanding government processes - what they are, how they work and why you need to know
  • Understanding how legislation impacts on public service operations
  • Understanding legislative responsibilities of all public servants
  • Understanding how policy is implemented in the workplace

Delivery method: Four of the above units are delivered in face-face workshops. Four units (**) are delivered in an online environment. Guest speakers from a range of government agencies are engaged in the program. Network building within and between agencies is promoted throughout the program. An induction workshop for participants and managers is held at commencement of the program.

A manager's support is a pivotal element in the success of any graduate program. ASC Training & Development has developed guidelines and checklists to support each manager in assisting graduates to get the most out of the graduate program.

Assessment requirements: Assessment for the Graduate Development Program is via a blend of formal assessment and evidence collected to demonstrate that graduates have applied their skills and knowledge in the workplace.

Time commitment: Four full-day workshops plus additional time to complete online units.

Pathway to Certificate IV in Government: For graduates who wish to complete a formal qualification, ASC Training & Development offer a range of additional units that can be undertaken to complete either the Certificate IV in Government, Certificate IV in Government (Injury Rehabilitation Management), Certificate IV in Government (Injury Claims Administration) or Certificate IV in Government (Project Management) (by incorporating the Project Management in Government short course and additional electives).
